Abstract
Objectives: Describe the level of preoperative anxiety and some related factors in patients undergoing endoscopic sinus surgery at the National Otorhinorarynology Hospital in 2023.
Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted among 259 patients from January to December 2023. The Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale was used to evaluate anxiety.
Results: 84.9% of patients had no anxiety, 15.1% had mild anxiety, and none had moderate or severe anxiety. Patients without health insurance were 5.42 times more likely to experience anxiety (95%CI: 1.99–14.78; p < 0.05), while those who had not received counseling from healthcare workers were 10.7 times more likely to be anxious (95%CI: 3.56–32.19; p < 0.05).
Conclusions: Overall anxiety levels in FESS patients were low. However, lack of health insurance and absence of preoperative explanation significantly increased anxiety risk. Nurses should prioritize anxiety screening, enhance preoperative counseling, and support patients in accessing health insurance to improve care quality.
