Abstract
Objective: To describe the quality of life (QoL) of patients after total hip arthroplasty at Viet Duc University Hospital in 2025.
Study design: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 130 patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty at the Institute of Orthopedic Trauma, Viet Duc University Hospital, from January to June 2025. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire at 2 and 4 weeks postoperatively, with QoL assessed by the SF-12 scale. Descriptive statistics were applied to summarize demographic, clinical characteristics, and QoL scores.
Results: Mean scores across all domains of the SF-12 improved significantly (p < 0.001). Physical health showed the greatest improvement, rising from 22,08 ± 6,91 to 46,41±17,3, while mental health increased from 43,20 ± 11,18 to 57,62 ±16,75, and the overall SF-12 score improved from 32,64 ± 8,26 to 52,02±16,56. At 2 weeks postoperatively, most patients were classified as very poor (46.9%) or poor (33.1%). By 4 weeks, however, 16.9% achieved “good” and 33.1% “very good” QoL levels.
Conclusion: Patients’ quality of life significantly improved within the first 4 weeks after total hip arthroplasty, particularly in physical health, with a marked increase in the proportion achieving “good” or “very good” outcomes compared to 2 weeks postoperatively.
