Abstract
Objective: To translate and evaluate the measurement properties of the Professional Self-Identity Questionnaire (PSIQ) among Vietnamese nursing students.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in accordance with COSMIN standards. Content validity was assessed through expert consensus using the Content Validity Index (CVI). Construct validity was examined using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Reliability was evaluated using Cronbach’s alpha and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC).
Results: EFA identified a stable three-factor structure (profession-specific elements, generic attributes, and interpersonal tasks), explaining 77.8% of the total variance. CFA confirmed this structure with acceptable model fit. The VN-PSIQ demonstrated a moderate positive correlation with professional attitude (r = 0.36, p < 0.001) and a weak correlation with perceived stress (r = 0.075, p = 0.266). Reliability indices were excellent (α = 0.95; ICC = 0.97).
Conclusion: The VN-PSIQ demonstrated a stable factor structure and satisfactory measurement properties, indicating that it is a valid and reliable instrument for assessing professional self-identity among Vietnamese nursing students in research and educational settings.
