Abstract
Objective: To assess knowledge and practice of breast self-examination among women in Thuong Cat ward, Bac Tu Liem district, Hanoi in 2020.
Method: A cross-sectional descriptive design was conducted on 270 women living in Thuong Cat ward, Bac Tu Liem district, Hanoi. The knowledge tool kit was developed from the researcher author Le Thi Dung and Vo Thi Ngoc Ha, the practical tool for breast self-examination performed by NCCN (2010).
Results: 80,9% of information about breast self-examination were found to be from health workers. The knowledge of breast self-examination was 49,3%, the practice of breast self-examination was low, 24,1%, the lowest practical step was the breast examination of breast only 4,9%. 73,3% of respondents knew that monthly breast self-examination could detect breast cancer, but 38,5% said that they only need to do breast exam once a year, 19,6% of women said they need an examination. breasts 1 month 1 time. 50,7% of women know that a nipple check is necessary, but only 26,2% did well.
Conclusion: Women who participated in the study had limited knowledge and practice of breast self-examination with the rate of 49,3% and 24,1%, respectively.
