Abstract
Objectives: This paper is a report of a study to assess the nutritional status according to the Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) and identify the related factors of inpatients.
Method: This study, conducted in 2022, had a descriptive, cross-sectional survey design. A total of 400 patients participated in this study.
Results: The findings showed that the malnutrition rate at hospital admission according to the SGA scale was 56.7%. There were 46% of patients at risk of malnutrition distributed in the age group ≥ 60 years. 22.2% of patients at risk of malnutrition had a secondary education level. Patients with low income had a rate of 30.5%. Some factors related to nutritional status of inpatients included: age, education level and average income (p<0.05). Age was negatively correlated with malnutrition (p < 0.05; r = 0.349).
Conclusion: Hospitalized patients are at risk of malnutrition, related factors include age, education level and average income.
