Abstract
Objective: To examine the outcomes of nursing care for children under two years old with acute diarrhoea at Vinmec Times City International General Hospital in 2022-2023.
Methods: Cross-sectional description of 152 mothers and their children under two years old with acute diarrhoea admitted to inpatient treatment at Vinmec Times City International General Hospital in 2022-2023. Data was colleted using a questionnaire consisting of 2 parts: part 1: clinical characteristics and clinical scales of pediatric patients with acute diarrhoea collected from medical records, and part 2: questionnaire to evaluate the outcomes of nursing care for pediatric patients and health education provided to mothers of how to care for their kids. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 25.0.
Results: there were 90.1% of children whose mothers were instructed how to mix and administer Oresol, and 63.2% of children needed fluids to rehydrate or reduce fever. 78.3% of children had mothers who were instructed to perform cooling when they had a mild fever, and 56.6% received care support when their children vomited. Instructions for mothers on how to handle a child’s vomiting reached 87.5%. The rate of guidance and support when children defecate reached 64.5%, and 100% of recovered children were discharged from the hospital.
Conclusion: The results of general care showed that 82.9% of pediatric patients received good care, and 17.1% of pediatric patients did not receive good care. It is necessary to strengthen health education for mothers about early rehydration of children with acute diarrhea to limit dehydration.
