Abstract
Objectives: To describe the quality of life and explore associated factors with quality of life among patients after inguinal hernia surgical repair.
Study subjects and methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 88 patients with inguinal hernia using HERQL instrument in order to evaluate the life quality of patients after inguinal hernia surgical repair.
Results: The study population included 88 patients who received inguinal hernia surgical repair with 90.9% were men, and more than 50.0% of study participants were at 60 years old or older. Before the surgery, the prevalence of patients with worse and worst quality of life was 27.3% and 15.9%, respectively. The average number of hospitalization days was 7.7±2.1 days. The percentage of patients with improved quality of life after inguinal hernia surgical repair was 46.6%. The associated factors with post-operative quality of life included sex, a recurrent hernia, a bilateral hernia, an incarcerated hernia, and surgically medical history.
Conclusions: The study reported positive improvement in quality of life of post-operative inguinal hernia patients. Sex, a recurrent hernia, a bilateral hernia, an incarcerated hernia, and surgically medical history were associated factors with post-operative quality of life.
