Abstract
Objective: To describe the current status of nurses’ attitudes and practices in providing medication education to patients upon hospital discharge at Hoan My Cuu Long General Hospital and associated factors.
Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted through face-to-face interviews using a structured questionnaire (based on the instrument developed by Bowen) with 136 nurses at Hoan My Cuu Long General Hospital, from November 2024 to March 2025.
Results: Nurses had positive attitudes and good practices in medication instruction upon discharge of patients were 72.8% and 69.1%, respectively. Between the department and positive attitudes; the time of medication instruction and good practices was statistically significant p = 0.001. Attitude and practice have a positive relationship, medium to high level with statistical significance p = 0.05.
Conclusion: Nurses demonstrated a relatively high rate of positive attitudes toward providing medication education at discharge 72.8%, but good practices were lower 69.1%. Attitudes and practices were significantly associated with the working department and duration of education p < 0.05.
