Abstract
Objective: To identify factors associated with knowledge and attitudes toward medical incident reporting among nurses and midwives working in selected clinical departments at Vinmec Times City International Hospital in 2025.
Methods: An analytical cross-sectional study was conducted among 254 nurses and midwives working in selected clinical departments at Vinmec Times City International Hospital. Participants were selected using systematic random sampling. Associations between participant characteristics and knowledge and attitudes were examined using odds ratios (ORs), 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs), and statistical tests with a significance level of p < 0.05.
Results: Among 254 nurses and midwives, 65.4% had adequate knowledge and 92.5% had positive attitudes toward medical incident reporting. Those caring for ≥ 5 patients per day had higher odds of adequate knowledge than those caring for < 5 patients per day (OR = 2.4; 95% CI: 1.4-4.1; p = 0.001). Female participants had higher odds of having positive attitudes than male participants (OR = 3.6; 95% CI: 1.2-11.1; p = 0.016). No statistically significant associations were observed between the remaining factors and knowledge or attitudes (p > 0.05).
Conclusion: Most nurses and midwives had positive attitudes toward medical incident reporting, although the proportion with adequate knowledge remained limited. The number of patients cared for per day were associated with knowledge, while gender was associated with attitudes toward medical incident reporting. Continued efforts to strengthen knowledge of incident reporting and to maintain a supportive reporting and learning environment are recommended
