Abstract

Objective: To determine changes in the patients’ knowledge about prevention of recurrent urinary stones at Nam Dinh General Hospital in 2020.

Method: An educational intervention study was performed among 60 patients with urinary stones from February 2020 to May 2020 in Nam Dinh General Hospital. The self-completed questionnaire based on the Derek Bos2014 study was used to evaluate of patients’ knowledge before and after.

Results: The mean scores of patients’ knowledge before the intervention, the day before discharge and one month later were 6,15 ± 1,84 points, 10,87 ± 1,66 points and 9,75 ± 1,70 points, respectively (p values of 0.01). The percentages of patients who had the good level of knowledge before the intervention, the day before discharge and one month later, respectively were 20%, 91,7% and 83,3%.

Conclusion: The knowledge of 60 patients about prevention of recurrent urinary stones within the study was limited before the educational intervention then improved significantly after the intervention. The study shows the importance and nescessary of patient health education.
