Abstract
Objectives: Investigate factors related to knowledge and practice on the prevention of hypoglycemia among patients with diabetes at 108 Military Central Hospital in 2023.
Subject and Methods: The cross - sectional study was conducted with 105 diabetic patients in 108 Military Central Hospital from January, 2023 to May, 2023.
Results: The mean age was 61,8 ± 14. The participants had good knowledge of hypoglycemia with 41,9%, and 58,1% of participants had poor knowledge. The participants had good practice in hypoglycemia with 36,1%, and 63,9% of participants had poor practice. The patients who were taking insulin therapy and oral medicine had knowledge and practice 2,8 times higher than the group using only insulin therapy or only oral medicine, this difference is statistically significant (OR = 2,8; 95%CI = 0,9 - 8,9; p = 0,04). The patients who were regularly checking ups had knowledge and practice 4,9 times higher than the those non - checking regularly, this difference is statistically significant (OR = 4,9; 95%CI = 2,7 - 8,2; p = 0,001).
Conclusion: Diabetic patients have limited knowledge and practice on the prevention of hypoglycemia. It is necessary to raise awareness for patients about the importance and dangers of hypoglycemia. From there, have knowledge and practice to handle it on time, minimizing unwanted risks.
