Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of health education in improving knowledge about Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and the behavior of using drug delivery devices in patients with the disease.
Methods: Pre-post study on 60 patients diagnosed with Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and using drug delivery devices being treated at Department C4 of Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital. Data collection tools was self-administered questionnaires. Describing statistics of frequency, ratio, mean to describe variables, the Spearman test was used to analyze the correlation of patients with improving knowledge and behavior of using drug delivery devices.
Results: Before the health education for patients, the average score of patients general knowledge about Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease from 7.46 ± 1.7 increased by 11.35 ± 1.8 after the intervention, the average score of general practice when using drug delivery devices from 3.23 ± 1.2 increased by 5.36 ± 0.6 after intervention. Age, education level, type of equipment used by patients had an impact on improving knowledge about disease and behavior of using drug delivery devices (p < 0.05).
Conclusion: Our study had confirmed that health education for patients was essential to improve treatment efficiency, thereby replicating the health education communication model at grassroots health levels and in the community.
