Abstract
Objective: To analyze several factors associated with knowledge of stroke prevention among outpatients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at the Medical and Pharmacceutical University Hospital in 2025.
Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 400 patients with type 2 diabetes were receiving outpatient treatment at the Medical and Pharmacceutical University Hospital from October 2025 to January 2026.
Results: The study on patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus identified statistically significant associated factors, including age ≥ 70 years and disease duration ≥ 5 years (p < 0.05), as well as uncontrolled fasting blood glucose levels. Meanwhile, educational level, information sources, family history, gender, occupation, and physical activity were not significantly associated (p > 0.05).
Conclusion: The study results showed that older patients, patients with uncontrolled fasting blood glucose levels, and those with a longer duration of diabetes were associated with inadequate knowledge of stroke prevention. The study emphasizes the importance of screening and counseling, as well as developing appropriate health education programs tailored to different age groups and disease durations in order to improve stroke prevention knowledge among patients.
