Abstract
Objective: To assess the status of the practice of intravenous technical procedure of second-year nursing college students in Quang Ninh Medical College and identify factors that affect the practice of intravenous technical process students.
Method: A cross-sectional study of 126 second-year nursing students.
Results: 81% of the students explained the correct medication and encouraged the patient; 63,5% of students followed proper hand hygiene when preparing for nursing; 65,9% of students performed hand disinfection before touching sterile equipment 100% of students have not performed well the tube disinfection step. 47,6% of students did not disinfect their hands before injection; 59,5% of students disinfect hands after performing the technique; 37,3% of students do not publicly record the medicine; 91,3% of students did not do well in instructing patients after injection. Practice of the whole technique achieved a good level, averaging = 31,4 points, standard command level = 2,320 reflecting student qualifications at many different levels. The highest score 38/44; the lowest 25/44; no student below 50% of the benchmark score. Influencing factor: 96% of teachers’ regular supervision, facilitating 94,4% of patients.
Conclusion: Students have done well in the technical process but lecturers need to focus on the steps such as informing and explaining to patients; quick disinfection manipulations; record the drug publicly; educate patients to better practice their students. Factors that greatly influence the implementation of the technical process include regular monitoring of teachers and the facilitation of patients.
