Abstract
Objectives: Evaluate the EBP competency of nursing students, assess the impact of barriers factors, and explore the related factors.
Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 134 nursing students at Duy Tan University from November 2021 to January 2022. The instrument consists of 3 parts: demographic characteristics, EBP competency, and barrier factors.
Results: Competency of EBP among nursing students was 3.67 ± 0.49. The most important barriers to EBP skills were lack of time and lack of interest. The average score of EBP knowledge, attitudes and skills differed significantly by demographic characteristics such as grade, academic ranking, EBP training/study, internet usage frequency, and English proficiency (p < 0.05).
Conclusion: Nursing students at Duy Tan University had a high level of evidence-based practice competency. However, there are still barriers preventing students from adopting EBP, which is a challenge for nursing educators in improving the quality of nursing education programs.
