Abstract
Objectives: To describe self-care status of type 2 diabetes patients at Bim Son town general hospital, Thanh Hoa province in 2023.
Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study on 105 patients with type 2 diabetes being treated at the outpatient clinic, Bim Son Town General Hospital from April to June 2023 .
Results: The average self-care score of studied patients according to the SDSCA questionnaire was 4.29 ± 0.38 points (range: of which the 3.09 - 5.07). Among self-care activities, medication adherence was best performed by patients with a performance rate of 100% (mean score of 7.0 ± 0.00). Foot care activities were performed regularly by 63.8% of study subjects (average score was 5.44 ± 0.8). The activity of checking blood sugar at home has not been given much attention by patients; 2 patient regularly checks blood sugar at home (average score 0.61 ± 0.92). Proportion of studied patients classified as not good self care practice was high (accounted for 98,1%).
Conclusions: Self-care status of patients with type 2 diabetes at General Hospital of Bim Son town, Thanh Hoa province is still low. It is necessary to strengthen counseling and health education to improve knowledge and self-care practice for type 2 diabetes people .
